Acupuncture sessions, including additional methods of treatment such as Tuina massage, cupping, “Cool Laser Therapy” etc, are often covered by health benefits. These additional methods of treatments are within the scope of practice of a Registered Acupuncturist, and your entire session of Acupuncture + the massage or cupping or laser etc will be covered under your Acupuncture receipt. However, neither Tuina massage on its own, nor cupping on its own can be invoiced as an Acupuncture treatment.

Our Acupuncture treatments include massage and may include cupping if desired or appropriate to the treatment, as well as other adjunct therapies.

We focus on alleviating challenging health issues that affect your quality of life. First we bring you to a place of greater comfort by addressing pain and discomfort, and then support you in your journey to illness prevention and health maintenance.

We make an assessment that is specific to you, and not only for the general condition you have. We verify (through palpation) our selection of acupuncture points before inserting needles. We use a gentle technique, and make sure you remain comfortable at all stages of the treatment. We also consider psycho-emotional challenges (if relevant and applicable), and other aspects of your lifestyle, such as nutrition, exercise, and stress levels, in order to recommend tailored self-care methods.

Patricia’s Treatments

With her initial training in Shiatsu massage, Patricia developed a great sensitivity that enables her to find areas of pressure pain in your body. Some relate to your chief complaint, aka where it hurts, but many are actually reflexes that denote specific types of internal organ imbalances according the TCM, or according to the Japanese Acupuncture style from Kiiko Matsumoto that Patricia is using and continuously updates her skills in. This approach makes it possible to understand the systemic health imbalances that you are experiencing. In many cases, these systemic imbalances prevent proper healing, and re-balancing them will greatly contribute to alleviating your symptoms. Therefore a treatment for pain might include local points related to the painful area, might include points far from the pain area but related to it through a meridian's connection, but will most likely include points that re-balance your internal healing powers. For instance, treating neck pain might involve using points to re-balance the immune system (to deal with inflammation better), or digestion (to produce blood and energy that can nourish your muscles), or the TCM Liver (to promote free flow of Qi or produce blood to nourish your tendons), or the TCM Kidneys (to benefit the joints and the bones according to TCM), etc.

Tracy’s Treatments

Tracy’s Acupuncture and Acu-Points massage is enhanced by sensitivity to energy that has been developed during years of meditation/mindfulness, and reiki practice. Everyone can sense energy, it’s a matter of practice to develop awareness of subtle changes in the body such as cold and hot spots, tight areas, and presence or lack of energy/blood/lymph flow.

Each treatment is customized to address your primary health concern for that session, as well as your overall constitution (current strengths/weaknesses). Tracy has a gentle needling technique, and in both Acupuncture and Acupressure massage, strives to have patients feel energy move through blockages, and then achieve deep relaxation.

Acupuncture considers a person’s emotions or state of mind/stress in its diagnosis, and Tracy focusses on healing both physical and emotional tensions or blockages during each treatment, as emotions are connected to organ systems in Chinese Medicine, and the overall goal is for the body-mind to operate in a state of dynamic balance (calm equilibrium).
